Today EBP staff enjoyed a fascinating tour of the historic Templemore Avenue Baths building and the new innovative housing project led by Hearth in McMaster Street.
It’s hard to believe Templemore Avenue Baths is now into it’s 3rd century serving the East Belfast Community – opened in 1893 it is the only functioning Victorian swimming pool in Northern Ireland. With 50% of the building derelict the building is a fascinating mix of old and new / used and unused / modern and traditional and we hope to see the restoration of this Victorian landmark and new life breathed into it.
Hearth Housing Association now own 8 old shipworkers houses in McMaster Street, Belfast’s only listed street and conservation area, which are in different stages of restoration. Hearth have already restored some houses on this, once typical but now rare, Belfast street and have now taken on four more. This project is part funded by DSD and NIHE and are working to restore these historic derelict houses into new energy efficient quality social housing.
